2008 Grammy Nominees Announced
The nominees for the 2008 Grammy Awards were announced today (December 6, 2007) in Los Angeles. The show will be broadcast live from the Staples Center on February 10, 2007 on CBS from 8 - 11:30 pm (ET/PT).
Dierks Bentley and Tim McGraw were the top leaders in country music, each receiving four nominations a piece. Dierks was nominated for Male Vocal, Country Song, for "Long Trip Alone," and Country Album, for Long Trip Alone. Plus, his live DVD, Live at the Fillmore was nominated for Long Form Video. Tim McGraw was nominated for Male Vocal, Country Collaboration, and Country Song with wife Faith Hill, for "I Need You," and Country Song, for "If You're Reading This," which he co-wrote with Brett and Brad Warren.
Vince Gill saw his album These Days receive a nomination for Album of the Year, as well as Best Country Album. Taylor Swift received her first Grammy nomination in the all genre category of Best New Artist. Montgomery Gentry and Emerson Drive are also celebrating their first nominations this year in the Best Duo or Group category. Carrie Underwood's song "Before He Cheats" scored two nominations. One in the General Song of the Year category, and the other for Best Country Song.
George Strait and Brad Paisley tied with the second highest amount of nominations, at three a piece. Strait receiving nominations for Country Male Vocal, Country Song, and Country Album, for It Just Comes Natural. Paisley received nominations for Country Album for 5th Gear, Country Instrumental, for "Throttleneck," and Country Collaboration, for his duet with Carrie Underwood, "Oh, Love," from her album, Carnival Ride.
In categories outside the Country-specific area, artists with country ties include Bon Jovi's "(You Want To) Make A Memory" was nominated for best Pop performance by Group or Duo, and the band saw their album, Lost Highway also get a nomination for Best Pop album. John Mellencamp's "Our Country," was nominated for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance.

The links I provided to other coverage were for other About sites. At the time I created this piece, the Classical Guide had not added a Grammy piece, so I could not link to it. I went to his site and found the link, and have since added it to my list of related links. It wasn’t my intention to slight Classical music, but I can’t link to something that isn’t there.
