Pure Country Goes to Broadway

Pure Country, the motion picture that starred George Strait is going to Broadway for the 2008-09 Broadway Season.

The book musical will feature an eclectic score of both New and Classic Country music, as well as Broadway and Adult Contemporary. Some of the people involved in the development include, film and theater director Peter Masterson, best known as the co-writer and co-director of the Broadway Musical version of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and co-director of the film version, will direct and co-author the book. Steve Dorff, who has written nine No. 1 songs, and 15 Top Ten hits, including Kenny Rogers' "Through the Years," and Eddie Rabbitt's "Every Which Way But Loose" will compose the music. John Bettis, whose songs have sold over 250 million records worldwide, will write the lyrics. Bettis wrote George Strait's "Heartland," which was featured in the movie, Pure Country.

Casting and dates for Pure Country will be announced in the coming months.
