Tanya Tucker's Daddy Would Be Proud
CMT is running an interview they recently did with the inimitable Tanya Tucker about her new album My Turn. The disc, which drops today on Saguaro Road Records, sees the remarkable singer paying tribute to some of classic country music's greatest hits. She duets with Jim Lauderdale on Buck Owens' classic "Love's Gonna Live Here" and delivers terrific renditions of tunes like "After the Fire Is Gone" (originally Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty) and "Big Big Love." (She told CMT that the latter was not a song she ever would have thought to include on this collection, but it turned out to be one of her favorites on the disc.)
Tucker's father was a great fan of country music and would frequently convince touring country singers to let little Tanya hop onstage for a tune. She says she originally thought of naming the disc The Songs My Dad Wanted Me To Sing. All respect to Ms. Tucker, My Turn is a much better title. As I mentioned above, the disc is available everywhere starting today. The CMT interview is available on their Web site.

Great stuff. I’m looking forward to hearing it, I’m a big Tanya Tucker fan. Now that she has this project out of the way, I’ve got a new challenge for her and other country artists across the nation:
I live in Bakersfield and work a couple of blocks from Buck Owens’ Crystal Palace. In Bakersfield, we follow in the footsteps of Buck Owens and other genre-busting pioneers from the Bakersfield sound era. My name is Dr BLT and I run a blog called:
Bakersfield Sound Underground

Today, I’m putting out a challenge to other country sings to join me in putting together a Michael Jackson tribute CD featuring country covers of Jackson songs.
Country fans are clamoring for copies of Dr BLT’s Kern County country rock (Kccrock) cover of Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean. Hears a sample:

I would love to hear her interpret some of Billy Arnold’s country songs.
He is my best friend and I love him dearly. His songwriting is un-paralleled… and to hear Tanya sing ‘em would be amazing.
It’s about time. I am ready to hear some good country music.
