Remember the movie Pure Country? Well, Broadway is reviving it for the stage (maybe because 9 to 5 didn't catch on and they need something that involves country music?) and country star Lorrie Morgan is set to appear as main character Rusty's manager, Lula. Rusty, originally played by George Straight in the film version, will be played by fellow country star Joe Nichols.
It seems Broadway has become as fond of adapting films for the stage as Hollywood is of adapting novels. Is there no good original material available? Regardless, it'll be nice to see Broadway hold a place for a country musical and no doubt Morgan will be a great Lula. The star told BroadwayWorld.com, "I never thought my life's path would take me to Broadway, but when I heard they were creating a musical based on one of Country music's best-loved films, I knew I had to be part of it."
