No, really. By huge, I mean really huge. Her Fearless album has now been certified gold or platinum in 14 countries across five continents. (CMT breaks out the statistics by country.) This in the middle of a global recession as record sales across the industry are down, because so many people are downloading single songs rather than entire albums. And yet, Taylor Swift seems to defy all those things.
Here in the States, the album is nearing quadruple platinum status. That's four million copies sold. That's the population of Melbourne, Australia (thank you Google). All this before exiting her teen years. Whatever you think about Swift's songs, you have to admit that's pretty remarkable. Whether or not it will be sustainable is another question. Regardless, in the meantime, the woman is making waves.
