Music industry executives and luminaries from inside and outside of country music gathered on September 9 in Nashville to honor and pay musical tribute to 20-time Grammy winner, Vince Gill. Held at the new Loveless Barn entertainment venue, stars took turns performing GillÂ's own songs and commenting about their experiences with him over the years. Among the many featured performers were former Doobie Brother, Michael McDonald, Alison Krauss, Brad Paisley, Steve Martin and Amy Grant
(GillÂ's wife), who served as the master of ceremonies. GillÂ's own band backed all of the performers.
One of the eveningÂ's more memorable highlights belonged to 26-time Grammy winner, Krauss, who performed GillÂ's songs Â"Whenever You Come AroundÂ" and Â"These DaysÂ" to standing ovations. Grant spoke about her husband first meeting Krauss at NashvilleÂ's leading bluegrass hotspot, Station Inn, back when she was still an unknown teenager. (Gill heckled from the front row that it was Â"during my drinking days!Â" to thunderous laughter.)
The nightÂ's biggest highlight was reserved for Paisley, who performed GillÂ's Â"Trying to Get Over YouÂ" and a rip-roaring version of Â"Oklahoma Borderline.Â" Paisley admitted that practicing to perform a Vince Gill song for Vince, himself, was like Â"going through a pre-flight check for a kamikaze mission. I hope nobodyÂ's recording this.Â"
Also in attendance were Wynonna and my good buddy, Grand Ole Opry legend Jim Ed Brown.
