This Sunday, Oct. 4, Farm Aid will take place for the 23rd time, this year in St. Louis, Missouri. Joining Farm Aid board members Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Neil Young, and Dave Matthews will be a swath of artists ranging in style from rock band Wilco to country stars Jamey Johnson, Gretchen Wilson, Billy Joe Shaver, Ryan Bingham and a number of others.
Farm Aid held its first benefit concert for family farmers on Sep. 22, 1985, in Champaign, Ill. In following years, the concert moved locations several times, stopping in Texas, Nebraska, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, and New York City, among several other places. Past performers have included Lyle Lovett, Bob Dylan, Kenny Rogers, John Denver, Bill Monroe, Martina McBride, and countless others.
