On January 8-9, stars from NASCAR will team up with Hank Williams Jr., Chris Young and other country stars for the fifth annual Sprint Sound and Speed charity event. The benefit kicks off on Jan. 8 at Nashville's famed Ryman Auditorium, the long-time home of the Grand Ole Opry. It will then move to the Municipal Auditorium for the second night on Jan. 9.
Founded by NASCAR star, Kyle Petty, and his wife, Pattie, the event raises money for the Victory Junction Gang Camp, which provides year-round camping experiences for children with serious and chronic illnesses. Some of the proceeds also benefit the Country Music Hall of Fame.
On Jan. 8 there will be shows at 7 and 9:30 p.m. CT at the Ryman. Hank, Jr. is scheduled to perform during the 9:30 show. Other music stars appearing during the two-day event are Danny Gokey, Jason Michael Carroll and members of Jason Diamond Rio. More artists are expected to be added. NASCAR stars Dale Earnhardt Jr., Tony Stewart, Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Casey Kahne, Carl Edwards and Michael Waltrip are scheduled to appear.
Ticket prices range from $20 for one night to $69 for both nights and are available through TicketMaster or the Opry. You can also visit www.soundandspeed.org for more information and continued updates as more artists and stars are confirmed. I've attended the last two of these events, and they were a lot of fun. So, if you're in Music City, it's certainly worth putting on your short list.
