Garth ObliskThe Music...

Garth Brooks took Manhattan and made it his own during his Free Concert in Central Park on August 7, 1997. The concert was broadcast live on HBO, Originally scheduled to run for 1 1/2 hours, it ran over by 15 minutes, much to the delight of Garth's fans watching at home.

The author, being one of the millions that watched it at home was truly delighted at the extra time Garth was given. The lucky fans that attended the concert in New York were entertained for another 20-45 minutes (depending on who you ask).

Fans lucky enough to witness the concert live were treated to an additional 3 songs not shown to viewers on HBO.

These were:

  • Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old)
  • If Tomorrow Never Comes
  • You May Be Right
    - with Billy Joel

Watching the concert, you could feel the emotion Garth was feeling. You could see how much he was loving every minute, and how very appreciative he was that so many people would come out on a hot August night to see him perform. When the people sang his songs back to him, he seemed astounded that so many people knew his music, and gave him the gift of singing it back to him.

I especially loved the way he was in awe of both Billy Joel and Don McClean as they sang. He was like a kid in a candy store, and it truly showed.
