The Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame is inducting some new members. Reba McEntire will be inducted on the 18th. Soon to follow will be the late Gene Autry, former Bread leader, David Gates, Jazz pianist Jay McShann, and gospel singer-songwriter, Albert E. Brumley.
David Lee Murphy has left his label, MCA records, but he has no lack of attention from other labels. They started calling him as soon as they heard.
Chely Wright is working on her new album, which will come out next March. She's re-recording "The Love We Lost" for the new album, and a single which hasn't been named should be out next February, with a video in late January.
In New York City, people are marking their calendars for November 21st, to get tickets to the 5th annual Jingle Ball '98 concert, to be held in Madison Square Gardens on December 17th. This is a benefit concert, where the proceeds go to charity, including The Lupus Foundation of America, and SHARE, a self-help group for women with breast or ovarian cancer. The stars? Country's own Shania Twain will be joined by the Goo Goo Dolls and 'N Sync.
Speaking of Shania, her tour has proved so popular that she's extended her dates into the new year. This December, she'll have a 10-day break to go to Europe to perform at the Amnesty International Celebration in Paris, France, then to Oslo, Norway for the Nobel Peace Prize concert. She concludes the tour with a stop in Las Vegas, at the MGM Grand Hotel, on January 2nd.
One of People Magazine's sexiest men is now officially off the market. Country singer, Gary Allen has announced his engagement to his girlfriend, Danette Day. The couple plan to marry on November 28th in Danette's hometown of Aiken, SC. Congratulations to the happy couple!
Travis Tritt will ride the Santa Train Express, on November 21st, which runs from Kingsport, TN to Pikeville, KY dropping off gifts along the way. Later that evening he will perform in Bristol, TN at the Viking Hall Civic Center. And speaking of Travis, he and wife, Teresa are expecting baby #2 in June 1999. They wanted to have the children close in age. Their first child, daughter, Tyler Reese was born in February of this year. Best wishes to them all.
Shania over football? Yep, that's the decision in Tennessee. ESPN College football wanted to broadcast the Kentucky-Tennessee game live, but Shania's concert is being held on Friday night and it wouldn't give them enough time to get their equipment set up.
In Nashville, TN, Reba McEntire's son accompanied her to the screening of Prince of Egypt, and really enjoyed it. He was particularly impressed with the movies portrayl of the parting of the Red Sea. He told his mom, "I'd like to walk through there."
Reba, again in the news, recently celebrated her #1 party for her song, "Forever Love." The party was held at Starstruck Entertainment. Reba is especially proud of the three writers of the song, Liz Hengber, Deanna Bryant, and Sunny Russ. She says the reaction she gets each time she sings it in concert is overwhelming.
Get yourself ready for a marathon. Not just any marathon, but the first Country Music Marathon, to take place in Nashville on April 29, 2000. The twist is that every mile along the route there will be different country bands will be providing entertainment for the runners and spectators alike. Participants will be treated to a headliner concert after the race.
Mark Chesnutt is in the news with his new song. You might have heard it on the Armageddon soundtrack. When Mark and his producer heard it, they knew they had to cut it. The song? "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing."
Anheuser-Busch is launching a national campaign to promote designated drivers. The promotion lets consumers know that choosing a designated driver is the right thing to do, and everyone will get home safely. Tim McGraw recently recorded a public service announcement to be used in this campaign.
There is a new fishing video that has some well-known Branson stars in it. Mickey Gilley, Mel Tillis and Tony Orlando are among those that are involved. Waylon Jennings narrates the video .
Christmas is rapidly approaching and Walt Disney World's Very Merry Christmas Parade will have Martina McBride on board as a musical guest. The parade will begin on Christmas day at 10 am, ET on ABC.
Deana Carter battled with her record label on the direction her new album would take. The label wanted to stretch her audience, but Deana stood her ground and record things that reflected who she was, and not try to be something she's not. This resulted in the outcome of her album, Everything's Gonna Be Alright. And listening to it, you'd have to agree, it is.
This year's Soap Opera Digest awards have Jamie Dudney, who's Barbara Mandrell's daughter going up against Erika Page, who is Bryan White's girlfriend, in the Favorite Newcomer category. Jamie will take her mom to the Awards show on February 26th. She's excited especially because she's gone with her mom to many shows where Barbara was the one nominated, and this is the first where she is the nominee.
Looks like Garth Brooks' Double Live CD is going to break the record for sales in a week. It's been said that the 17th, which was when the album first came out produced sales in the amount of almost 500,000 copies. Garth has been hard at work plugging the album this week, with an appearance on the Tonight Show on Monday, a special live-via-satellite concert for Wal-Mart shoppers on Tuesday, and another live special on NBC on Wednesday. The special on Wednesday was shown in three different timezones, and Garth took questions from people in each timezone.
The Nominees have been announced for the Nashville Music Awards. The nominees are Nashville area artists in a variety of different music styles, from country, bluegrass, americana, classical, christian, pop, blues, rap, jazz, and folk. Some of the Country artists nominated include Vince Gill, Trisha Yearwood, Faith Hill, Alan Jackson, Randy Scruggs, Jim Lauderdale, Riders in the Sky, Emmylou Harris, Garth Brooks, Bill Anderson, Dolly Parton, Steve Earle, Steve Wariner, T. Graham Brown, and more.
U.S. fans of Shania Twain will be able to see the broadcast of the Nobel Peace Concert, where Ms. Twain will be singing. The special will feature behind-the-sceens footage of the performers preparing for the show. The broadcast will be carried on the Fox Family Network on December 20th, from 8pm-10pm ET/PT.
George Jones' wife, Nancy has penned a book, along with celebrity writer Tom Carter about Nashville wives. The name of the book is Nashville Wives. She speaks with Theresa Haggard, Sandy Brooks, Rhonda Adkins, Denise Jackson, Tish Cyrus, Kim Campbell, and others.
Deana Carter is visiting Western Canada this week, promoting her new album, Everything's Gonna Be Alright. She did a autograph signing at a local bookstore in Calgary, and fans stood in line in the cold winter weather to get her autograph. Deana's album has been certified gold in Canada and is heading towards platinum.
While Deana was in Western Canada, Jo Dee Messina was in Minneapolis, MN to sing before a Vikings game, then off to the Mall of America with her duet partner, NFL quarterback, Brad Johnson for an appearance. Jo Dee and Brad have a duet on NFL Country, an album benefitting the United Way.
Paul Brandt is getting ready to release a Christmas album. He says that Terri Clark and Union Station will join him on the album, which will include some old standards as well as some new tunes penned by Paul himself.
With the birth of son number 3, Mark Chesnutt says he's trying to have enough sons to form a family band. Mark is winding down his tour this year, and will take some time off, then start up again in January. His next album is coming out in February, and Mark says there will be a mystery single playing on the radio stations soon.
Johnny Cash will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Songwriters next month. He is joined by former Beachboy, Brian Wilson, and songwriter Jeff Barry. |
