While I've known about Live Radio Broadcasts on the Internet for some time, I hadn't actually experienced them until earlier this month when I visited broadcast.com.
Broadcast.com is far from being merely a website merely broadcasting radio shows. It has an eclectic menu of shows to listen to, and watch, from news and sports, to entertainment and audio books, and everything in between.
My preference was finding a live country radio broadcast. The thing I like best about radio broadcasts on the Internet is that you don't have to live in a specific city to listen to their local radio station. You can live in Yugoslavia, Tahiti, New Zealand, Japan, Brazil, or even Timbuktu, and still tune in to a radio station playing great country music.
As you'll see the majority of the station examples below play "new" country music. But you can find radio stations that play "classic" country, as well. Quite a few of the stations play both "new" country, and your familiar favorites. It just takes some sampling to find the station with the format you enjoy the most.

I've listened to all the stations below, and I've included three songs that were played on the station at that time so that you can get an idea for the type of music these stations play.

Listening to Live radio broadcasts on the Internet is as easy as having a sound card on your computer, an Internet connection with a minimum 28.8 baud-rate, and downloading and installing a plug-in for your browser.
The two main plug-ins that are used to listen to Internet broadcasts are RealNetwork's RealPlayer and Microsoft's NetShow . See below for sites where you can download these two programs.
RealPlayer Downloads
If you have Windows 3.x, 95, 98, or NT, you can download RealPlayer G2
here.
The latest version for Macintosh and UNIX is RealPlayer 5.0. It can be found here.
There is also a pre-Beta version of the RealPlayer G2 that Macintosh users may download here.
NetShow Downloads
If you have Windows 95, 98, or NT, you can download Microsoft's NetShow here.
Those with either Windows 3.x or Macintosh can download Microsoft's NetShow here.
Right now, there isn't a version available for Unix users, but one is in the planning stages.
