Brooks & Dunn's show started at 10:30, as all the shows during the NFR do at the Hilton. The show has changed some since I saw them earlier this year, also in Las Vegas, at the Orleans Casino with the Neon Circus and Wild West Show. The show I saw was their last show of the year.
The show started with "Ain't Nothin' About You" and swiftly moved into "Brand New Man," then "She Ain't the Cheatin' Kind," and "Burn That Bridge When We Get There." Moving on to a song from their newest release Red Dirt Road called "Feels Good Don't It."
Kix took his turn singing "Mama Don't Get Dressed Up For Nothing." After this, they welcomed everyone to the show, and Kix saw a young boy from the row in front of me in his Junior Marine uniform and asked him to come up on the stage. Asking his name, he found out it was Robert. Kix said the thing he thought was extra cool was how shiny Robert's shoes were. Then, he said "Did you get a drumstick?" (In the previous song, Ronnie Dunn tosses drumsticks out to the audience members as they sing.) Robert said he didn't, and Kix asked them to toss him a stick, and he backed up and told Robert to catch it. He missed the stick, and went to pick it up and Kix said "No, that one's no good" and kicked it away and had them toss him another which he tossed again to Robert who caught it that time. Then, he asked someone if they could get his jacket for him and he dug into the pocket and told us about the Hilton making a $5.00 Brooks & Dunn chip. Then he signed it and gave it to Robert, and tossed a few more into the audience, saying "Hey, we're giving money away here." He said that anyone can buy them.. cost is just $5.00. ;)
After Robert went back to his seat, Kix went to the other side of the stage and started talking to a guy in the audience, asking them to shine the spotlight on "the guy in the red shirt." He asked his name, which was Chris, and asked him who he was talking to on his cellphone. The guy said "no one," and Kix said, "I could have swore I saw you on the phone just a second ago." Then, he asked for the phone, and said "Yeah, I know how to press redial," which he did, and he talked to whoever answered the phone. He told the person who he was, and apparently this person didn't know him. He told them he was a hillbilly singer. Then, he started saying that Chris was at the show with two girls, and they looked like someone from a billboard sign. He then asked Chris, "How many minutes do you have?" then said "We're gonna find out." He then put the phone on the drum set letting the person on the phone listen to the show.
During the song "You're Gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone" a video is played while the guys sing, and one of the people in the video is Dale Earnhart. As Kix was singing the song, a guy with a Dale Earnhart jacket came to the stage and I guess asked if Kix would wear it while he sang, which he did.
Later, Ronnie talked about being in the doghouse with his wife one time, so he wanted to write a song about "everything a woman wants to hear." Then, he chuckled and said "I think Alan Jackson already did that." The song they sang was "That's What She Gets for Loving Me," from Red Dirt Road.
During "Rock My World, Little Country Girl" Kix and Ronnie divide the audience into two sections. One section sings "Rock My World" with Ronnie, and the other section sings "Little Country Girl" with Kix. I always seem to end up on Kix's side, but this is always great fun. They have these blowup cowgirls on mechanical bulls and when Kix was helping the one to inflate right her head was on backwards. They moved the head down and twisted it so she was looking the right way, but it looked hilarious backwards.
