Brooks & Dunn - Las Vegas - May 23, 2003

After about a 30 minute wait, Brooks & Dunn hit the stage. Unlike the other shows where they started with "Only in America," they started this show with "There Ain't Nothin' About You." Moving back to some of their older hits, they sang "Brand New Man," "She Ain't The Cheatin' Kind" and "Feels Good Don't It."

Next is one of my favorite parts of Brooks & Dunn's show, when they sing "Mama Don't Get Dressed Up For Nothin'," and Ronnie tosses out drumsticks to the audience. I have yet to catch one.

Kix then welcomes everyone to the show, and notices a guy in the front row on a cell phone. He gives him a hard time, asking who he's talking to. The guy says it was his babysitter. Kix then asks for the phone, and he says "What's your babysitter's name?" I can't remember her name, but I think it was like "Lee Lee" or something. Kix redials the phone and talks to her saying how the guy should have gotten her a ticket and hired someone else to watch the kids. Then, he says, let's see how many minutes he has. He takes the phone and walks to the rear of the stage and puts the phone down on the drums, so Lee Lee can hear the whole show. I don't know if he ever gave the phone back or not. If not, I feel sorry for that guy's cell phone bill.

Kix then says "How about them Little Rascals? You thought Ronnie Dunn had a problem with hair products?"

Next, some more oldies with "How Long Gone," and "You're Gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone," during which the screens behind the guys show video of Waylon Jennings, and then Dale Earnhardt.

Another of my favorite parts is when Ronnie gets his "Neon Moon" guitar and sings that song where you can see the guitar glowing. Very cool. Ronnie asks the audience to sing the last chorus alone, and tells us they should take us with them on the road, we sound so good.

Another part that's always fun is during "Boot Scootin' Boogie," when Kix dances with an audience member. Then for "Rock My World (Little Country Girl)" two large blowup cowgirls on saddles are inflated. The guys split the audience and see which side is loudest. One side sings with Ronnie "Rock My World," and the other side sings with Kix "Little Country Girl."

The guys were the only ones to have an encore, and for their encore, they sing "Only in America" with the confetti blown out and streamers. Big mess for the janitor after the show, for sure. :)

After 1 hour and 15 minutes, Kix and Ronnie leave for the last time, and the Neon Circus is over.

It's easy to see why Brooks & Dunn are nominated for Entertainer of the Year, and why they won the CMA award last year. They always put on one heck of a show that keeps me coming back for more!
