Faith Hill Biography:

Audrey Faith Perry was born on September 21, 1967, in Jackson, Mississippi. She was adopted as a baby, and raised by a couple in the nearby small town of Star. Growing up, Faith would sing in church. By the age of 9, she attended a performance by Elvis Presley, who impressed her greatly.

After graduating from high school, Faith went on briefly to college, but she quit school to pursue her musical dream of performing, and moved to Nashville at age 19. Her first job was selling t-shirts during Fan Fair (now CMA Music Festival). Later on, she worked a secretary for country singer-songwriter Gary Morris in his publishing company.

Faith's first professional gig was singing backup for songwriter-musician Gary Burr, and it was at one of Burr's performances at the Bluebird Cafe that she was discovered by a Warner Brothers executive.

Take Me As I Am

Hill's debut album, Take Me As I Am, was released in 1993. The first single, "Wild One," shot to No. 1 and held the position for four weeks. Faith was the first female artist in 30 years to accomplish the feat. The album also spawned Faith's cover of the Janis Joplin song, "Piece of My Heart," which also went to No. 1. The album has been certified triple-platinum.

Faith's sophomore release was It Matters to Me. The title cut became her third No. 1 song. With the success she had been having, she was added to Tim McGraw's Spontaneous Combustion tour in 1996. The two stars were instantly attracted to each other, and became engaged during the tour, marrying on October 6, 1996.

It's Your Love

Faith recorded "It's Your Love" with hubby Tim McGraw in 1997. The song shot straight to No. 1, where it stayed for six weeks. The video was filmed when Hill was pregnant with the couple's first daughter, Gracie, and the song won both the ACM and CMA Vocal Event awards that year.

In 1998, Faith released Faith, which showcased a much more pop-country sound. The single "This Kiss" topped the country charts and crossed over to the pop charts, peaking at No. 7. Additional singles "Let Me Let Go" and "Just to Hear You Say That You Love Me" (the latter another duet with Tim) helped the album sell over six million copies.

Faith Breathes

Faith's next album was the immensely popular Breathe, with the title cut topping the country charts for six weeks, and crossing over to top the Adult Contemporary and Top 40 charts as well. The album was released in 1999, and has since sold over nine million copies. The video for the title cut was controversial, with Faith rolling around in satin sheets.

Soul 2 Soul Tour

Fans loved seeing Tim and Faith together, and the couple planned their first joint tour in 2000 called Soul 2 Soul. The tour earned over $49.6 million and ranked as the top country tour of the year.

Hill released Cry in 2002, which sold a modest two million copies, then followed it up with Fireflies in 2005, where she earned another No. 1 song with "Mississippi Girl."

In 2006, Tim & Faith launched Soul 2 Soul 2, which sold over one million tickets, and again became the highest grossing country tour ever, with sales of over $90 million.

Hill released The Hits in 2007 and released her first Christmas album, Joy to the World, in September 2008. The album contains 10 traditional Christmas songs, plus a new song "A Baby Changes Everything."
