How To Make Signs For Concerts

From Shelly Fabian, for About.com

People use signs to show how they feel, request a song, or say something special to their favorite stars. Here's how to make that perfect sign.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 45 minutes

Here's How:

  1. Go to your local arts and crafts store, or an office supply store will carry what you need, if there are no arts and crafts stores nearby.
  2. You'll want to buy bright colored poster board, and black permenant marker pens.
  3. If you're attending the concert with several friends, get together a couple hours before the concert begins to design your signs.
  4. If you're going with friends, you may want to make single signs, or perhaps signs that form a sentence when you all hold them up.
  5. You need to make your text as large as possible, so that it can be read from the stage. Lettering of 10-12' is preferable.
  6. The bright colored posterboard is the key. Many people will use white posterboard, but flourescent green, pink, yellow, or orange will be seen more easily.
  7. If the venue is small, please be courteous and don't hold your sign up for hours at a time. People behind you want to see the artist, not the back of your sign.
  8. With a little luck, your artist will see and acknowledge your work of art.

Tips:

  1. My recommendation for a brand of marker for your signs is the Avery Marks-A-Lot Chisel Tip Black Permenant Marker.
  2. Again, bright colored poster board, rather than white makes the best sign.
