From Music City USA Nashville Star is back. The show debuted on March 6, 2004 on the USA Cable Network, showing the Top 20 finalists performing for the judges and the TV viewers. The three judges, Country DJ Billy Greenwood, Sony's Senior Director of A&R Tracy Gershon, and the Warren Brothers decided which 10 would move on to the next round. They eliminated five contestants, and then the TV viewers vote on which of the remaining five would move on to the No. 11 spot.

This is the re-edited version of the recap. I had originally not had the complete show on tape, so I wasn't able to give the complete comments.

Below find the full description of the show.

First up was George Canyon from Nova Scotia, Canada.
Song: "Ring of Fire."
Tracy: - Hello George. You're lucky tonight that I'm a sucker for a strapping young handsome guy who sings the you know what out of a Johnny Cash song. Good Job, I'm in.
Brad: I like you. You look like the kind of guy that would kick somebody's butt and then lead them to the Lord.
Billy: You know I would say this. I think it's gotta be the toughest thing to star the show and I was even nervous for you, and I don't think it could have started any better.

Second to sing was Heather Greene from Cary, NC.
Song: "Keep Your Hands To Yourself."
Tracy: There's a lot of charisma happening on stage, you just need to have the vocals up to that level of charisma and they're not.
Billy: Heather, I would say this, I think you're beautiful, I think that you've got an unbelievable stage presence. Your vocals were probably the weakest of the three.
Brad: I can't put my finger on what I like about you, but if I was single, I probably would try.

Third to sing was Matt Lindahl from Snellville, GA.
Song: "Folsom Prison."
Tracy: You make me laugh.l You're kinda like Minnie Pearl meets "Deliverance."
Billy: I gotta tell you. Matt, I'm blown away. It's like you're funny, but you have a lot of talent and you can really sing on top of that. You got the whole thing. I'm blown away.
Brad: You know this is supposed to be the entertainment business. And if you people weren't entertained, I think you should all go outside and pay a cover for what you just saw. That rocks.

Fourth to sing was Laura Sullivan from Front Royal, VA.
Song: "Born To Fly."
Brett: Laura, you were good. Everybody here tonight.. You wouldn't be here if you weren't really good, but it just seemed a little Vegasy to me. A little.. you know, a little Vegasy to me.
Billy: I think you did a great job. I think you were off a few times vocally. But there's not an artist that I've seen who hasn't been off a few times vocally singing. I think you did a nice job.

After the first round Heather Greene was eliminated, and George Canyon was chosen to move on to the next round.

In the next round the first singer was Stacie Michelle from Memphis, TN.
Song: "Bobby McGee."
Tracy: The hair on my arms is standing on end right now. You did everything right. You are so cool. You're a good singer. You sang like a country Janis Joplin. You did her proud on that song. Wonderful.
Billy: Stacie, I wanna just say this. There's nothing like that on country radio right now. And I don't know, maybe there should be. I don't know in all honesty. I don't know if somebody turned on the radio station if they would know that was country. But I liked it. I just don't know.
Brad: You should be proud to call that country. That's what country needs to do instead of whatever they're doing right now. That was great.

Second to sing was Richie Jones from Hurley, MS.
Song: "I'm Country As They Come."
Brett: Richie, A lot of people in this town of Nashville say they're traditional country. And usually, that's to cover up their lack of originality and creativity. But I don't feel that with you. You're charming. I dig it.
Brad: You don't have to worry about crossover, cuz you couldn't go pop with an ass full of firecrackers.

Next up was Jennifer Hicks from Nashville, TN.
Song: "Jolene."
Tracy: Jennifer, I love the quality of your voice. And you know what you did. You sang "Jolene" like Jennifer Hicks, not like Dolly Parton, and I believed it.
Brad: You did something that is really difficult to do. I think you were sexy and real.
Brett: And you were real sexy. Real sexy.

Next was Austin Hanks from Palmerdale, AL.
Song: "Two More Bottles of Wine."
Tracy: I think you have a great attitude. I think there's a bit of charisma there. I think your vocals are a little weak at times, but man, I'd pay money to go see you in a bar, I'll tell you.
Brett: Austin, I think Nashville needs Keith Richards of country, I really do.l I know we're the rock'n roll guys of country, but I just love what you do. I love it.

Now the judges had to decide which of the second group of four moved on and which one would be eliminated. Richie Jones got the unfortunate news that he was eliminated and Jennifer Hicks moved on.
