Seventh to perform was Lance Miller
Song is "Beer's Not Just For Breakfast Anymore"
Brett: Lance Miller. The original song always...Tracy's right. It always makes the artist a lot better. The first week you sang "George Jones and Jesus," and then it kind of faltered a little bit. This song is a smash, and that hat looks great on you. You look a lot less like Chastity Bono. You're starting to look more like Sonny.
Brad: I've been trying to tell my wife that about beer for years. Thank you.
Tracy: You know there is a great line in a song, it's called "you gotta dance like nobody's watching.' I mean you're playing like you don't care. Finally you are loosing up. You're having fun and it's fun to watch.
Billy: Lance, I think early on, the one thing you were lacking is confidence on stage, and this is the first time I really really saw it tonight. You just nailed it. Nailed it.
My thoughts: I've said before that Lance has never been my favorite. I just don't "get" him. this week, with this song, I gotta say he did a great job. He still sounds a lot like Merle Haggard, but I guess if that's how you sound, you can't do anything.
Back to the Hot Spot Challenge. Showed Montgomery Gentry performing, and then the contestants joining them for "Hell Yeah," and "My Town." Then they were shown signing autographs.
Last performer is Brad Cotter
Song is "I Miss Me."
Tracy: Ok Brad. You know, in the words of those great country music philosophers Montgomery Gentry, Hell Yeah! that was the best song of the night and a great performance.
Billy: You know Brad, Rodney was just talking about hitting the emotions, and you just nailed it for me. And I just told Tracy while you were singing that. I said if you'd send that to radio, we'd play it.
Brett: Mark this down. The three of us are going to have to agree. That song was so good, your mama should have named you 'damn.'
My thoughts: I really like that Brad was playing the keyboard. The song was really good too, and his performance was a good one as well. I could definitely hear this on the radio.
Backstage with Rodney, Nancy asks him, "What's your best advice for the contestants?"
Rodney: Congratulations. My best advice for these folks here is writing is a full time job. And to really get to the best of your writing abilities you gotta write all the time, no stopping. So, keep writing.
My thoughts on the whole show:
In my opinion, the weakest two were Sheila Marshall and Matt Lindahl. I love Matt, but I didn't go overboard for his song this week. I've never liked Sheila and didn't care for her performance this week, either.
While I've been a big George Canyon supporter the past few weeks, this week, I've switched over to Brad Cotter, with George coming in a *close* second. My third favorite of the night was Lance, which is a 180 from how I've felt about his singing any other week.
Remember, these are my opinions. Feel free to disagree with me. :)
