Guide Review - And The Crowd Goes Wild - Mark Wills

Prior to recording a pair of songs for his Greatest Hits CD in 2002, Mark Wills really didn't have total control of song selections for his CDs. However, he did choose "19 Somethin'" and "Are You Ever Gonna Love Me." After "19 Somethin'" became the biggest hit of Wills' career, his record label, Mercury Nashville, decided to let him choose his own songs for his next CD.

The first single from the next CD ("And The Crowd Goes Wild") was also the title of the album. It's a fun uptempo song about underdogs that is further proof that Wills knows more than just ballads. The Duet with Ronnie Milsap (a reworking of Milsap's Number One hit trucker anthem "Prisoner Of The Highway") and "Nothin' But A Suntan" are fine additions to Wills' collection of uptempo tracks. He doesn't abandon the ballads completely however because, as he proved with hits like "Don't Laugh At Me,” he’s a heck of a ballad singer. The second single "That's A Woman" and "I Just Close My Eyes" are proof on this album.

"And The Crowd Goes Wild" sets the stage for a promising second phase of Mark Wills' career. With more songs like "And The Crowd Goes Wild" and "Nothin' But A Suntan," Mark is sure to please many fans. Those looking for a nice modern country album should pick up a copy of "And The Crowd Goes Wild."
