Guide Review - Hymns By Johnny Cash
This album has been said to be the one that Johnny went to Columbia to record. Sun Records did not want him to record a Gospel album, and it was a project he really had it in his heart to do.
Several of the songs are original tunes penned by Johnny himself. They have the distinctive boom-chicka-boom playing style that Johnny was known for in much of his music.
This isn't a traditional Gospel album. It is a true country album and the songs just happen to be Gospel. Johnny's faith was unshakeable, and his heart and soul is poured into the music. He has included some upbeat songs, some songs have lyrics that are deeply moving and one even has the narrative style of song that Johnny did so well.
