Guide Review - At San Quentin - Johnny Cash

"At San Quentin" is a historic album for many reasons. It's one of Johnny's best concert records; it was broadcast on the BBC; it was the 1st time Johnny ever sang "A Boy Named Sue," the recording which went on to become a hit single (censored for radio, it appears on this re-issue uncensored for the first time), it won Johnny 5 CMA awards in 1969.

This is Cash at the top of his form. Performing with the entire Johnny Cash show, including wife June, the Carter Sisters, the Statler Brothers, & Carl Perkins, it's a delight from beginning to end. Includes live versions of "Ring of Fire" & "I Walk The Line," as well as between-song patter, Cash's fun-loving personality shines through on every track.
