Guide Review - Big & Rich - 'Horse of a Different Color'
Reading Big & Rich's biography had me a little worried in what their album would sound like, & I admit that it really isn't bad at all."Rollin' (The Ballad of Big & Rich)" rocks out as the duo sings about not caring what kind of music a person plays as long as everyone has the chance to sing at the top of their lungs. The song that drew me to this album, "Wild West Show" stands out as one of the best on the album and proves to be a wise first single choice. Another great song is "Big Time," wherein a singer knows he won't make a million dollars but doesn't need it anyway because friends will always buy him beer.
"Six Foot Town" is about getting out of a place you don't want to be in. "Sometimes I get crazy & it makes a big scene but when I hit 21 I want to stand up & scream." This ten foot tall guy is too big to stay put in a tiny little box of a town. "Holy Water" is a powerful story about a girl whose innocence was stolen & she wants to go far away to see her Father. Realizing mistakes & hitting rock bottom found a guy begging God for mercy in "Saved." For those familiar with the band 311, "Real World" has their music sound with country vocals.
"Drinkin' About You" is jazzy sounding with memories being reflected in between drinks of beer. Going along with the salvation theme found in songs above, "Live This Life," is about living life to its fullest before there is none to live anymore.
