Guide Review - Live Recordings from the Louisiana Hayride - George Jones
The Louisiana Hayride, broadcasting on Shreveport's KWKH, once ran a sharp rival tothe Grand Ole Opry in popularity. Jones was a regular cast member from December '55 through August '56 (when he left to join the Opry cast), and came back frequently to perform. As the liner notes state, "Jones' vocal performances are the gold standard by which country music singers are judged." The truth of that can be traced through these songs, as George's unique style developed around his amazing voice.
It's hard to find better than George Jones when you're looking for real country music. These recordings may be rustic, but they're more than worth the time. These collections are a grand gift to country fans. Other Louisiana Hayride collections are in the works, as well; but a great place to start is here with true country music royalty.
