Guide Review - Highway - Wilkinsons
When the Wilkinsons first arrived on the country music scene in 1998 they had an enchanting debut single (The Top 3 26 Cents) and rich family harmonies. While they only had two more Top 10 hits over the course of 2 more recorded CDs (but only one released), the Wilkinsons, (father Steve, Daughter Amanda and son Tyler), have maintained a successful career in Canada and as such it made sense to continue their career up north. Signed to Open Road Recordings/Universal Canada, the new CD Highway is a confident collection of traditional based country songs that could do well in the states if the trio secured a deal with a label (Amanda has a solo deal with Universal South). The single Little Girl leads off the record and its an appealing, radio ready track that showcases Amandas strong voice. Fans of traditional ballads will really like the Leaving Song. L.A. is a harmonica laced country/pop song that should be played on the radio. No Ones Gonna is a fine song that showcases the familys growth in writing and vocals. Tyler gets to sing leads on the fine Human while Steves always great, thoughtful voice graces the cool lyrical title track and the album ending Grains Of Sand.
If youre looking for a great collection of songs from a really talented family, look no further than Highway from The Wilkinsons. Its a complete CD that shows the growth and maturity that the once teen dominated group now possesses.
