Guide Review - I Give My Heart - John Berry

After shuffling through a couple of record labels between 1998 and 2001, John Berry decided to take back the reigns of his career in 2003 when he released his wonderful 'Songs And Stories' double album. After selling 10,000 copies of that acoustic live album, John decided to record some of his all-time favorite love songs, from his and other artist's catalogs. The resulting album, 'I Give My Heart' was released in early 2004 on John's newly formed Clear Sky Records.

The first cut on the album is the classic Jim Croce song "Time In A Bottle" which fits John’s expressive tenor voice like a glove. “Will You Marry Me” is a wonderful new “wedding anthem” that deserves to be on the radio. "Lets Stay Together" is fully reinvented into the country soul ballad it was always destined to be. Kenny Rogers' "Lady" is also given a standout reworking while some other standout tracks on the CD are the rerecording of "Your Love Amazes Me" and one of my all-time favorite album cuts, the Billy Kirsch/Allan Shamblin title cut, "I Give My Heart."

It takes a special vocalist to be able to record these classic songs and not "butcher" them. Thankfully, John Berry is one of the best vocalists in any genre to have ever recorded a song. 'I Give My Heart' is an album full of timeless love songs that will be used in many weddings for years to come. Fans of love songs or great vocalists will love this album.
