Guide Review - Lone Starry Night - john Arthur martinez
I'm a little bothered by folks pretentious enough to have their name printed lower case. For the record, it's not proper grammar in any language which uses this alphabet to not capitalize the beginning of sentences. If the sentence begins with either 'john' or 'martinez,' it should be capped, same as a sentence beginning with 'the.' That said, I love john Arthur's music so much the name thing only bothers me if I have to write about it.Last year on "Nashville Star," john Arthur was my instant favorite, but I had no expectation that anyone who sang real Texas music (in Spanish, yet) was going to make the finals, much less come in second. It tells me, at least, there's folks voting who actually DO want to hear this kind of music on the radio, no matter what radio may think. Fact is, john Arthur's newest disc is good. Really good. His voice caresses lyrics and delivers them with amazing emotion, a breathless quality that can leave the listener gasping a little, too. Nashville seems to have forgotten the "and Western" part of the music, something john Arthur remembers.
I hope that Nashville Star's first runner-up can do as well as the American Idol runners-up have. I want to hear some of john Arthur's work on the radio. Let's see if we can show them what we showed Nashville--we want this guy's style of music.
