Guide Review - My Mother's Hymn Book - Johnny Cash
I've been a Cash fan for many years. I grew up listening to him and remember "The Johnny Cash Show" back in 1969 through 1971. The man in Black has the most impressive musical career of all time. A man of faith, that carried him through life. Music was an integral part of everyday life in the Cash household and this album shows that. His Mom use to sit and play these songs all the way through, over and over, and when he went to record this album he went straight to that book she left him.The fact that Johnny may have known he was dying while making this album makes listening to it even more meaningful. Songs that I heard as a child in church and at home, like "I'll Fly Away" brings back some memories. Just listen to the words in "Where We'll Never Grow Old" and picture Johnny kneeling in a chapel by himself, praying from his mother's hymn book. It will take right there. I know that just about everyone has heard "In The Sweet By and By", what more perfect person to sing this song than the Man In Black.
A man that has numerous CMA and Grammy awards along with being the youngest living inductee into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Doing so many things in his career. I think this is one of his finest moments. If you like the Man in Black you'll love this album, and just in time for Mother's Day. What a great tribute to his Mom and the Wife he loved so very much. A Cash Fan Must Have.
