Guide Review - Moot Davis - Moot Davis

Do you worry about the state of honky-tonk music? Do you hate the lack of twang, the PCisms, the preachiness of what passes for "country" music today?

Thank the Lord, you don't have to worry anymore. There's a new voice out there who reminds us what honky-tonk is supposed to sound like. His name's Moot Davis. You may not have heard of him yet, but you will. This is a guy who, if all was right with country music today, would be the next star in the country music heavens. He has a sound that is balm for the weary souls of those of us who have been trod on by the Nashville Pop Machine for too long. Moot sings music that speaks to the soul of everyone who reaches for a longneck in a smoky bar at the end of the day.

With a voice that mixes Western sound with Appalachian feel, Moot Davis kicks. Davis taps into the essence of hardcore honky-tonk to give us what we're dying for.

It was a quality that veteran record producer and guitar god Pete Anderson recognized. With a bare ten tracks on the debut disc, Moot Davis proves himself. Anderson himself plays lead guitar, and his expert production doesn't take away from Moot's voice, which has the right redneck hiccup and cryin'-in-your-beer sound that make us love real country music.

Do yourself a favor. Head on over to Little Dog Records and pick up Moot Davis' disc. It may not be anything fancy, but ain't that what we're looking for?
