Guide Review - My Heart To You - Don Williams
Don Williams has been recording his brand of pure country music for 30 years, bringing to the countrypolitan sound dignity and style. He is, always, nothing more than what he has always been--warm, tender, rich, & pure Don Williams."My Heart To You" is all of these things, with fresh takes on a few old songs (notably a passionate take on "The Rose" & a lovely version of Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight") & many new originals, delivered with Williams' unwavering beautiful baritone voice and sincere passion. Press indicates these are Williams' first new studio recordings in five years, which makes me wonder about "Silver Turns to Gold," a supposedly new disc I reviewed in 2002. But no matter how long it's been since Don laid down a song, he still does it right.
Williams is country music's Barry White, the singer of romance. His love songs are deeply touching, joyously real, compelling, as in his gorgeous title track, "My Heart To You," and his heart-rending delivery of "The Rose." Williams wrote six of the eleven tracks, including the upbeat opening cut, "Running In The Fast Lane," as well as the title track, and the lovelorn, "Fly Away."
Don Williams is a solid rock in a rapidly changing world. You can come to Don Williams at any time and get beautiful, mellow country sounds and lovely romantic music. He presents only himself, this "gentle giant," with a voice that just plain can carry you away. It's an album to share with someone you love, some candles, wine, and a pleasant fire.
