Guide Review - Chasin' Down Destiny - Steve McCormick

Sometimes when an album comes across my desk, I have no idea as what to expect when the CD is slid into the player. With unassumingly simple artwork, the first impression I had of Steve McCormick's album was to let the music speak for itself.

What came through the speakers was a nice and refreshing brand of radio-friendly country music that doesn't lose its roots in glossy or slick production. The title track finds Steve proclaiming, with a vocal style reminiscent of both Buddy Jewell and George Strait, exactly what it is that he wants with his life and career. "Get Some Right In Them Two Left Feet" is a slice of western-swing heaven while "That Day" is a wonderful tribute to Sept. 11, 2001. Other standout tracks include fun tracks like "The Doghouse" and "Lovin' That Country" and the tender ballads "You Better Think" and "Livin' In Yesterday."

With 10 well-written and confidently performed songs, Steve McCormick's self-released "Chasin' Down Destiny" certainly presents a strong case for Nashville labels to get their acts together and sign more artists like him. The songs are memorable and would fit in with many other artists. And that my friends, is the sign of a songwriter who is going places with his talent.
