Guide Review - Happy Holidays from Bruce Robison & Kelly Willis
While Bruce and Kelly both sing "Baby, It's Cold Outside," they also take turns singing songs all by themselves which gives listener's almost a three-for-one special in one seven song album.Kelly sounds jazzy on "Santa Baby," where she tells Santa that she really believes in him in hopes that she'll get everything she wants when Christmas time rolls around. Bruce sings "A Winter's Tale," a song with beautiful lyrics that paint such a vivid picture in a listener's mind.
"In The Bleak Midwinter" is softly and gently performed as only Kelly would be able to and the piano heard throughout really sets off the song nicely. "Baby, It's Cold Outside" is the best cut as it features both artists and you can tell they enjoy singing together.
Bruce's "The Christmas Waltz" sounds unique while upbeat and offbeat "Please Daddy, Don't Get Drunk" is humorous as always. Kelly sings background vocals on the chorus and Bruce gives a special mention to Charlie Robison, also a singer, with the lyrics: "Daddy was with Uncle Charlie again."
Another jazzy showing from Kelly is found on the closing track, "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." Once it sets in that this is the last song it leaves you with a feeling that you wish there were a few more songs on the album. Bruce and Kelly sound as wonderful as ever on 'Happy Holidays' and it is very obvious that they enjoy this time of year.
