Guide Review - Well Deserved Obscurity - Warren Brothers

Before scoring their gig as judges on Nashville Star, The Warren Brothers were a moderately successful duo who recorded for BNA Records. Their song “Sell A Lot Of Beer” says it all about them: “We don’t sell a lot of records but we sell a lot of beer.” Anyone who purchased a Warren Brothers record in the past may be somewhat shocked by the rock direction taken on this new CD.

“Comeback” opens up the record with a southern rock sound that is at the forefront of their “new” direction. The song tells a story of a guy who wishes things were the way they used to be. “Between The River And Me” is a haunting song that tells a story of a mother, son and step-father. “Change” chronicles the Warren Brothers’ struggle to attain a level of success that many of their friends have achieved. Southern Baptist Heartbreak has a mainstream country sound to it without losing the rock edge while “Running Out Of Heroes” finds a man running out of good woman to live with. My favorite track on the record is the final track “The Lucky.” It’s a simple song that says that if you believe in stuff strong enough, you never have to ask why things are the way they are.

While the Warren Brothers are no longer on a major label, they have presented their best album yet. It has something on it for fans of uptempo music. It is as close to mainstream country as an artist can get while still maintaining an independent edge.
