Garth Brooks CD Review:
- The Limited Series
Dateline: 06/01/98

This week I'm reviewing The Limited Series. The Limited Series, also known as the "boxed set" was released on May 5, 1998. It includes all of Garth's work from his first six albums, Garth Brooks, No Fences, Ropin' the Wind, The Chase, In Pieces, and Fresh Horses. Besides the original 10 cuts on each of the above-mentioned releases, each album in The Limited Series also includes an additional song that was recorded at the time of each album's release, but for one reason or another did not make the cut. The Limited Series is just that... a limited collection, of which only 2,000,000 copies were pressed to be released world-wide. There are subtle differences in two tracks that I've noticed. If you've noticed any other discrepancies, let me know, and I'll add it here. Both songs are on Fresh Horses. The first is "The Old Stuff, which on the original version of the CD has crowd noise in it. This version is without crowd noise. The second song with a difference is "Rollin'," which if you turn it way up at the end, you can hear some laughing. So, what do I think about it? I love it! There have been arguments over why Garth released this when the only differences in the CD's themselves are the additional 6 cuts. As I've mentioned above, there are a couple of differences sound-wise. The booklet that comes with the set is great to look at, with lots of Garth photos to view. Of course, quite a few of them are from the CD's themselves, but many are not. I'm particularly fond of the photo on page 40. Having all the lyrics available in one place is really handy too when you want to look up the words to a particular song. You don't have to go digging for that particular CD, you can just open up the book, and there it is. Garth has another hit on his hands. Was this surprising? Not at all. I would have preferred seeing this offered in a larger quantity, however the smaller 2,000,000 number makes it fit the title, The Limited Series better. I'm glad I bought it, even though I had all six CD's in my collection prior to having bought it. It's a worthy addition to any fans collection, and a great deal for those fans that haven't gotten around to getting all the albums in CD format, or just didn't have them all period. |
