Tim McGraw

After Jeffrey Steele left the stage the road crew came on and started preparing the stage for Tim's set. I took the time in between shows to go visit the restroom, and buy something to drink. The lines were long in both areas, but I made it back to my seat with plenty of time to spare.

Around 8:15 pm, Tim hit the stage with the cover of Elton John's "Tiny Dancer." Tim is no Elton, but he did a real nice job with it. From that he went into his current single at the time of the review, "Unbroken."

Tim was dressed in jeans and a white t-shirt with his trademark black hat. As he sang he moved from one side of the stage to the other so that people could see him from both sides of the amphitheater. Back in my seat in the 22nd row, I could see him to a point, but not really great. Lucky for me, my camera doesn't require me to look through the viewfinder to take a shot. I held my camera up so that the majority of heads were out of the way and snapped pictures that way. Unfortunately, I wasn't overly successful in holding the camera steady enough. Out of over 100 pictures taken, I was able to use 14 of them. Not a very good ratio, but hey, I'm glad for the ones I got, and I hope you're enjoying them as well.

This wasn't my first Tim McGraw show. I was fortunate enough to have been able to see him back in 2000 when he had the Dixie Chicks and Warren Brothers opening for him. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to take pictures during that show due to a geeky security guard with a head trip. He said no digital photography was allowed and that he had put up the sign himself. After the show, I checked, and there was no evidence of any sign. This guy just wanted to ruin my evening. Even the people around me thought he was a jerk, and everyone else was allowed to take pictures with their cameras. Oh, did I mention I was in the 2nd row? :/

Perhaps my next Tim McGraw show will have better photo results?

Back to the show. Tim doesn't do a lot of talking. He did do something that I don't remember him doing before, and that is that he sang medleys of several of his hits. Maybe because he has so many of them he has to do this now? I don't know, but I would have liked to hear the full versions, but was happy to hear them at all. :D

After "Down on the Farm" Tim said, "Hi, I'm Tim McGraw, and these are the Dance Hall Doctors." I thought that was kind of funny... like we didn't know who he was. ;) After that he sang "Grown Men Don't Cry," and then "Indian Outlaw," and "Don't Take The Girl."

One thing Tim did announce, towards the end of the show was that he was recording his next studio album, which will be out in November. He played a song from the album, which was called "Red Ragtop." The song was, like most of Tim McGraw's songs, fantastic. I am really looking forward to this album.

One last thing... if you've been a reader of my concert reviews, you'll remember my comments about Gary Allan drinking beer and tequila through his show, and how I thought it was inappropriate. I noticed in the video for "The Cowboy in Me" that Tim does take a beer and drinks a sip at the end of the song, then he gives it to someone in the audience, I believe. He did the same thing during this show. I wanted to say that this doesn't bother me because he did it at the end of the show, not all through the show. I'm not positive that he did drink anything from it before giving it away, but I know he did that during this show, and it reminded me of the video.

Here is Tim's full set list: Songs with (m) after them were sung as part of a medley, or partial song.
