The Male Vocalist nominees are:
While Brad Paisley is one of my favorites, I really don't think he belongs in the Male Vocalist category just yet. I would have rather seen Collin Raye or maybe Kenny Chesney nominated. I have to go with Tim McGraw. I've seen him live, and I enjoy his music and singing.
Who Will Win?
Ok, going down the list of nominees. Vince Gill did release an album just last April. Prior to that he wasn't touring, and still isn't touring. I'm not sure he has enough exposure to win this one. Alan Jackson put out his album of tributes to classic country artists, Under The Influence, (also nominated for Album of the Year), and is doing well with it. Tim McGraw is the reigning Male Vocalist, and that gives him an edge, and he's also performing nightly with Faith on the Soul to Soul tour, which is huge, so he's definitely got the exposure. Brad Paisley is having a banner year with his debut album going gold and heading towards platinum. He's picked up other awards for his songs, but as I mentioned above, I don't think he really belongs in the "Male Vocalist" category yet. George Strait released a Greatest Hits CD this year, and is going to be releasing another studio album in the Fall, plus he had his annual George Strait Country Music Fest, which was very successful. I'd have to say it's between Tim and George, and really close. I believe I'm going to go with Tim, although King George may pick it up, and if so, I wouldn't be totally suprised.
