In the months since the catastrophic events of September 11th, there has been an assortment of patriotic music appearing on the shelves of every music retailer. The newest of these collaborations is titled America's Country. Featuring 15 great country songs and 15 great country artists, this is one of the better compilations.
You'll find quite a diverse selection of artists on this CD from country legends like Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard, to some outstanding artists that have only come around in the last decade or so. Extremely young newcomer Billy Gilman evens contributes to the CD with his song "There's A Hero"
The songs are also as varied as the artists. There are the customary patriotic songs like "The Star Spangled Banner" performed beautifully by the group Ricochet, and Charlie Rich's rendition of "America The Beautiful." And what CD meant to exemplify our country's pride would be complete without Lee Greenwood's "God Bless The U.S.A."
Classic songs such as Charlie Daniels' "Let Freedom Ring" and Merle Haggard's "The Fightin' Side Of Me" are a true pleasure to hear. "Tattoos And Scars" by Montgomery Gentry and Patty Loveless singing "Where I'm Bound" are among the more contemporary tracks.
With all this wonderful music, it was hard to pick a favorite... so I picked three. The first is Joe Diffie's song titled "Home." Hearing this song on this album just gave it a whole new meaning to me. Second would be "Some Gave All" by Billy Ray Cyrus. This song has always struck a chord with me. It's such a sad but beautiful story. Finally there is "City Of New Orleans" by Willie Nelson. Admittedly, I've never been much of a fan of his, but this particular song has continually been the one exception.
