Another Day, Another Record Broken |

In George Strait's long career, he's piled up the No. 1 records. So much now that with "She'll Leave You With a Smile" becomes his 50th No. 1, breaking the previous record held by Conway Twitty. Since his first album Strait Country came out, George has won numerous industry awards and has 25 platinum records, which in itself is another record for a country artist.
Upon hearing the news Strait said,"While I am extremely pleased and excited about reaching this new milestone in my career, I realize that it would not have been possible without an enormous amount of support from the fans and from country radio as well as the unending effort of dozens, maybe even hundreds of great people who have worked at MCA Records over the course of my career. There is no way that I can find the words to properly express my gratitude to everyone for their help. I am very humbled by it all."
Back in 1981, George had his first hit with "Unwound," which he took to No. 6 on the charts. His first No. 1 song was "Fool Hearted Memory" in 1982, and between 1986 and 1989, each of the 11 singles that he released hit the No. 1 spot.
