If you think his name sounds familiar, you're right. Anthony is the writing talent behind such hits as George Strait's recent hit, "Run," Trace Adkins' "I'm Tryin'" and Montgomery Gentry's "Didn't I."

Anthony is working on an album of his own, due out in June on Mercury Nashville, and he kindly took the time to answer some questions from Matt.

Matt Bjorke: What drew you to Country Music?

Anthony Smith: It was always in my house growing up, so I guess it's in my DNA.

Matt Bjorke: Who are some of your influences?

Anthony Smith: Waylon, Merle, Johnny Cash, Vern Gosdin, Keith Whitley

Matt Bjorke: What style of Country Music do you feel that you best fit? Traditional, Pop, Rock, or other and why?

Anthony Smith: Classic Country meets Classic Rock.

Matt Bjorke: Knowing that you are currently one of the top songwriters, who was the artist who first recorded one of your songs?

Anthony Smith: Lonestar, "Without You." (from I'm Already There.)

Matt Bjorke: How do you decide to write what you write? Are they just thoughts or do you just have a "plan"?

Anthony Smith: I just pray for God to help me be creative that day.

Matt Bjorke: Has anything changed for you since you were signed and recorded for Mercury Records?

Anthony Smith: The way I schedule my sessions.

Matt Bjorke: When did you come to Nashville?

Anthony Smith: November 1995.

Matt Bjorke: Did you go to be a writer or a singer (or both)?

Anthony Smith: Mostly a singer, writing was just something I happen to do all my life.

Matt Bjorke: If you could say one thing to aspiring songwriters, what would you say?

Anthony Smith: For God sake! Tell a story in a way no one has ever done before, or at least shoot for that and then find a great melody that fits it.

Matt Bjorke: As a songwriter and now a recording artist, what do you feel about the Internet and the song swapping sites? Is it good, bad or both?

Anthony Smith: It's bad, bad, bad, bad!!!
