All I Wanted Was You is Oklahoma born Billy Hoffman's first venture in releasing an album and I think he released a solid collection of songs that run from being heartfelt to being pure honky-tonk.

Though Billy may not be well known, nobody better rule him out as being a hard-working artist. Not only does he perform tirelessly at different small venues, he has opened up shows for such major hard-hitting artists as Lee Ann Womack, Toby Keith, Tracy Lawrence and Diamond Rio.

"All I Wanted Was You," the title cut, is a mid-tempo tune that tells of a man that cannot get his mind off the gal that left

him and the reason of her change of heart is baffling to him because, try as he might, he just cannot figure out what went wrong.

Once the beginning music of the next song began to play I started experiencing double deja vu because the song, "I Go Crazy," was something that I have heard numerous times on other albums I have reviewed before ("Destination Unknown," and "Jolie & The Wanted"). "I go crazy when I look into your eyes" is how the song's chorus goes in this beautiful tune written by Paul Davis.

Speaking of Victor Sanz, Billy does an almost identical sounding version of "Destination Unknown," a song with a summertime-driving feel and appeal to it. This song was one of my favorites from Victor's album and is also one of my favorites from All I Wanted Was You.

Kicking off the next tune with an immediate feel of revved up guitars and drums and some attitude in the voice, "You're The Ticket" really hits the spot after the previous more "tame" sounding songs. The man in the song loves his girl and he is not afraid to show it by stealing a kiss at the top of a Ferris wheel or walking through the sand holding his darling's hand. She is his ticket to true happiness and he does not want to lose it all by making her think he does not care about the relationship.

"Saved By A Southern Belle" finishes up the album with its super fast backbeat and prominent piano that is found sprinkled throughout this guitar/drum-laden song. The man was extremely down in the dumps, down on his luck, and up to no good, until he met a woman whose love made him turn his life completely around for the better.

I got the sense that Billy was holding back at the beginning of the album on the ballads, even though his voice sounds tender, once I heard the more up-tempo stuff it was more like I was hearing the type of song he was more comfortable singing.
