Lest you think that perhaps Blake is another one-hit wonder, one listen to the rest of the songs on this album will prove that theory wrong. There are at least three other songs that I'd bet would hit the Top 10 as well.
The album starts with a sure-fire smash, "Every Time I Look At You," which was co-written by Blake. It's a great upbeat tune that will have you singing along by the second repetition of the chorus.
Another ballad, "All Over Me" (Again, co-written by Blake), lets Blake show that he can hit the high notes as well as the low, with the falsetto chorus, "She was all over me. And I used to let it get all over me. And now to prove that I love her, I'd crawl on my knees for the whole world to see, now that she's all over me."
"She Doesn't Know She's Got It" is another song that would be a great choice for a single. It's upbeat and tells the story of a girl that doesn't know the effect she has on guys.
"Austin" is the next song. Just what can I say about this wonderful song? Everytime I hear it, I tear up when the girl tells him "And by the way, boy, this is no machine you're talkin' to... Can't you tell, this is Austin, and I still love you."
The story in "Ol' Red" is about a man that killed his wife's lover and ended up in prison doing 99 years. He makes friends with the warden who has him watch his hound, "Ol' Red." The dog is supposed to be able to hunt down anyone, and the chorus goes: "And the warden sang - Come on somebody why don't you run? Ol' Red's itchin' to have a little fun. Get my lantern. Get my gun. Red'll have you treed before the mornin' comes." The guy finds a way to escape that you'll have to listen to the song to hear about.
I really enjoyed this album. It has something for everyone, being traditional-sounding with a smack of contemporary sound that will be sure to get him airplay.
