Brad Paisley & Yankee Grey Concert Review

Brad Paisley If you love traditional country and think all the new music is leaning too much towards pop, you'll be relieved to know that Brad Paisley has no such leanings. He makes a point to tell people that he doesn't write music for pop radio. Country is where he plays, and always will.

With that in mind, any fan of traditional country couldn't help but love the show that Brad puts on. He mixes in his own music with songs of his musical heroes like George Strait, Buck Owens, Roger Miller, Merle Haggard, Vern Gosdin, Alabama, Don Williams and others. And his guitar playing? Incredible!

Below you'll find the list of songs that Brad performed. I've included links to audio clips of the songs available, courtesy of CDNow.

  • Long Sermon
  • Sleepin' On The Foldout
  • Who Needs Pictures
  • Medley of Traditional Country Songs:
    • King of the Road
    • Act Naturally
    • Mama Tried
    • The Chair
    • Lonely Women Make Good Lovers
  • It Never Woulda Worked Out Anyway
  • Nervous Breakdown
  • More Traditional Songs:
    • When You Say Nothing At All
    • Marina Del Rey
    • Dixieland Delight
    • Good Ole Boys Like Me
    • He Stopped Lovin' Her Today
  • I'm Gonna Miss Her - this is from his upcoming album (not sure of the title)
  • He Didn't Have To Be
  • Me Neither
  • Even More Traditional Songs:
    • Miles and Miles of Texas
    • 14 Karat Mind
    • Is It Raining In Your House
  • We Danced (This is his next single)
  • Ramblin' Fever

Brad asked us if we all loved traditional country music. Everyone screamed "Yes!" He said that was good because that was all you'd hear during his show. He said that there are other artists that are going into other directions, but that he would always play traditional music.

Brad told us that about a month ago he started recording a new album. He said he wrote a song for those people that love to fish. He then sang "I'm Gonna Miss Her." I'm assuming that is the name, as he never said the title. The song is about a guy that loves to fish, and his girlfriend asks him to choose between fishing or her, and he sings, "I'm gonna miss her..."

Prior to singing "He Didn't Have To Be" Brad said that he learned not to write songs to make money. Instead he writes songs from the heart. He said that when he and his friend Kelly Loveless wrote "He Didn't Have To Be," they just wanted to write a song that would make Kelly's wife cry. It worked... and it made lots of other people cry as well.

If you think country music is going to heck in a handbasket, just check out Brad Paisley in a concert near you. I think you'll agree that if Brad has any say in it, traditional country will always be alive and well. And, you'll go home respecting the man and his music, carrying a copy of his CD, if you don't already have it, and maybe even a t-shirt too.
