Brad Martin's debut album Wings of a Honky Tonk Angel came out in June, and he took time out of his busy schedule to sit down and answer some questions from your About Country staff. Here's what he had to say:

1) Were you nervous making your first video for your song, "Before I Knew Better?"

Being that it was my first video, I must admit, I was a bit nervous. Having worked behind the scenes of a few videos in the past, however, I was familiar with the process. It was quite impressive to see all the hard work and planning for the video come together. Once we got into the middle of the day, everybody seemed really comfortable and things went smooth.

2) Who were some of the country music artists you looked up to when you first became interested in music?

To this day, I still look up to the ones who influenced me in music. My dad is and will remain my all-time hero and though him I learned a lot about country music. He turned me on to country music's Greats. In my eyes, Merle Haggard is still the one artist I feel that truly inspired me as a writer and an artist. I love listening to Conway Twitty, Hank Jr., Waylon Jennings…the list is long. I have also incorporated their music into my show.

3) If you could do a duet with any artist, who would it be?

I would do a duet with Merle Haggard.

4) What is your favorite thing to do when not out on the road?

I love to fish, golf, workout, and just enjoy some time to my self.

5) How would you describe yourself, both personally and your music choices? What drives you?

I am driven by my continuous longing to always find new challenges.

6) Do you have anyone in particular that you look up to in the business? Did someone impress you so much that you wanted to grow up to be like them?

There are so many people in the business that I look up to. That goes for people behind the scenes as well as artists and songwriters.

7) What instruments do you play?

I play guitar.

8) How old were you when you knew you wanted to be a country artist?

I always loved to sing and entertain people with my music. I believe I made the decision right outta college that I wanted to take the risk to actually make it (music) a way of life.

9) How was it playing the Opry with your dad?

Being a part of the Opry is such an awesome thrill. I know it was a dream come true for my dad to play the Opry, so being able to make that happen for him truly made being a Country Artist even seem more rewarding.

10) What are your favorite two songs off your album?

I must say that one of my personal favorites is the title cut "Wings of a Honky Tonk Angel" but their pretty much all my favorites.

11) What is in your CD player right now?

If you were to check my CD player, you would probably find the last song I just wrote. Other than that, there's a good chance you'd find the HAG!

12) What would you suggest to anyone who wants to be a songwriter/singer?

My advice to anyone who wants to make it is to keep on trying new things to tap into what inspires you to make new great country music.

13) How long after going to/moving to Nashville did it take for you to get a publishing contract?

I was really fortunate that it only took about 2 years. It was a learning process to establish and understanding as to what I needed to do to write hit music.

14) What would you like to say to your fans out there reading this?

I would like all my fans to know that I really believe in Country Music and that the songs on my album are real life and true music.
