Facts:
Name: Charles Frank Pride
Birthdate: March 18, 1938
City of Birth: Sledge, Mississippi
Spouse: Rozene
Children: 2 sons, Kraig and Dion, and one daughter, Angela
Joined Opry 1993, the first African American to do so.
First Career Choice: Baseball.. After an injury, his first singing gig took place in a bar in Montana.
In 1994, Charley's autobiography Pride: The Charley Pride Story was released.
In June 1994 he opened his own theater in Branson Missouri.
In 1994 he recieved the Academy Of Country Music's Pioneer Award.
In 1997 "Roll On Mississippi" was named the song of Charley's home state.
In 2000 he was inducted into the Country Music Hall Of Fame Induction.
Charley is one of the Top 20 best selling country artist's of all time. His record include 36 number one hits, more then 35 million albums sold, 31 gold and 4 platinum albums, and on RCA records, Charley is second only to Elvis Presley in total record's sold.
