Lorrie Morgan started singing at a very young age with the encouragement of her father, Grand Old Opry Star George Morgan. She made her Opry Debut at age 13. In the 1970s, after the death of her father, she worked as a backup singer for George Jones. In 1979, she had her first two minor chart successes with "Two People In Love" and "Tell Me I'm Only Dreaming." In 1984, Lorrie was asked to become a member of The Grand Old Opry. She and Justin Tubb have been the only two people that have been asked to join the Opry that did not (at the time of induction) have hit records.

In 1986 Lorrie met and married Keith Whitley. She tells about their very tumultuous and all too brief time together in her book "Forever Yours Faithfully." Reading the book gave me a new respect for Lorrie and the things she has gone through.

I first became aware of Lorrie's music on (of all places) the school bus. It was during my freshman year of high school. Some friends of mine were just wild about a country song that had just come out, "Out Of Your Shoes." I have been a fan ever since.

It is hard for me to pick out my favorite Lorrie albums but if I had to choose I would pick out "Warpaint," and "The RCA Essentials." My favorite songs would have to be "Evening Up The Odds," (I had this played at our wedding reception. I thought it was kind of appropriate) and "Till A Tear Becomes A Rose." I heard this song shortly after losing two people I loved very much and it really comforted me.

I have seen Lorrie Morgan in concert once, in 1994, at the Duquoin Illinois fair. She was amazing. It was an early fall evening and we all felt a little sorry for Lorrie. It was rather chilly and Lorrie was obviously freezing in her light costumes and bare feet. She also had a bad headcold and could barely talk between songs but boy could she sing! I remember at one point Lorrie came on stage wearing a red spandex bodysuit and a white feather headdress to sing "Warpaint." She got a 5-minute standing ovation from all the males in the audience.
