To have a career with the longevity and the fan following that Waylon Jennings has is very rare these days. He has had hits in the 60s 70s 80s and 90s. I have grown up listning to his music, but only lately have begun to really "Listen" to his music. There is so much more to Waylon then the overhyped misunderstood "Outlaw" image. My most favorite Waylon songs are the ballads like "Storms Never Last," and "Amanda."
"Green River," written by Harlan Howard, but recorded by Waylon is another gem of a ballad song. Waylon can be tender, and then tough and growly the next moment in such songs as "Don't You Think This Outlaw Bit's Done Got Out Of Hand," and "Only Daddy That'll Walk The Line." He also has a wonderful sence of humor in songs like "Black Rose," with the line "The Devil Made Me Do It The First Time, The Second Time I Done It On My Own," and in "Honky Tonk Heroes," with "There ain't no other way to be for loveable losers, no account boozers and honky tonk heroes like me."
Waylon has also displayed a love for his country and concern for its inhabitants in choosing songs to sing like "Love Of The Common People," which he said in his biography reminded him of the raw deal the American Indians have suffered.
