The Original Carter Family is the most influential group in country music history. Because of them country music went from mountain instrumental music to vocals. Their unique style of guitar playing was the "in" style for many years. The original group consisted of A.P. Carter, his wife Sara, and Sara's sister, Maybelle. The last group consisted of Maybelle and her daughers Anita, Helen and June (Mrs. Johnny Cash).

In 1970, The Original Carter family was the first group to be elected to The Country Music Hall Of Fame.

Their popular songs include:

Note: The Original Carter Family and Jimmie Rogers signed their first recording contracts on August 1, 1927, with Victor Records. Many country historians refer to this event as the day country music really began.

Jimmie Rogers, whom most call "The Father of Country Music" never considered himself the father of anything but three daughters. When he was discovered he was trying to make a living as a southern vaudeville act. Due to his poor health he couldn't work any other type of job.

"His music is the music of America. He sang the songs of the people he loved, Of a young nation growing strong".

Above is inscribed on the Jimmie Rogers statue in Meridian Mississippi.

For someone who has been as much of an influence on country music it's interesting to mention that Jimmie Rogers never appeared on any major radio show or even on the Grand Old Opry.

In 1961, Jimmie, Fred Rose and Hank Williams were the first people to be inducted into the Country Music Hall Of Fame.

Popular Songs:

  • T For Texas (Blue Yodel)
  • Mother Queen Of My Heart
  • Hobo Bill's Last Ride
  • In The Jailhouse Now
