Encounter from: Sarah Schreck 10 yrs ago, (when I was 18) I lived in Dallas, TX. One night me and a friend went to the glass elevator in a hotel in downtown Dallas to see the sights from above (this was an inexpensive exciting thing to do when I had no money, ha ha!). When we got off the elevator Kenny Rogers was coming right towards us. We were shocked! Kenny Rogers! I grew up listening to him and loved alot of his songs(especially duets with Dolly). He had just finished a concert. There was one person besides me and my friend there, and he was snotty to the other person about giving an autograph. So when he finished with that one and looked at me for my pen and paper (which I didn't have any and only wanted to say Hi to him--I didn't know I was going to meet a star that night) I looked at him straight in the eye and told him he wasn't worth my time. I was so mad! I know he was tired after a concert but if there had been a hundred people standing there he would have gladly signed two autographs with a smile. I didn't want to take up his time and chat, I only wanted him to smile and say Hi to me. I would have loved to have gone to his concert but at that time I couldn't afford it. Instead of this encounter being a highlight in my life its a low point. And even though I still love his songs, I will not buy any. I try to teach my children that a kind word to someone is never too hard a thing to do...... even when you may be tired! Maybe someone should teach him that lesson. |
