Though they have had rough times getting their musical career on the ground, I am glad that Curb decided to release Clark Family Experience's self-titled album. It is full of fiddles, mandolins, dobros, and other instruments that give every song a country feel, while still maintaining a bit of contemporary sound as well.
Leaving happens to be the subject of the aptly titled, "Going Away," wherein the man of the song wants to take some chances and learn to grow as he experiences new situations. Sitting around in a "one horse town" will not suit him anymore and so he has to leave and go find himself somewhere else, though he does vow to come back again after awhile.
"It'll Always Be You" is an ode to love that was lost and the hopes that his special lady will come back. He feels as though he could never love another woman because she is the first thing he sees when he opens his eyes and no one can touch his heart like she did. Though his thoughts of her returning may be nothing but a long shot, he knows that his arms will always be open for her anyway should she decide to appear and stand in front of him once again.
"Standin' Still" is one of my favorite songs because of the upbeat tempo and really fun lyrics. Living the slow life is not what is right for this guy as he talks about jumping over trouble like there is not anything to it. In his mind, if you are not out in the world having some fun then life is going to pass you by before you even realize it - even when it comes to the joys of love.
When I first saw the video for first single, "Meanwhile Back At The Ranch," I loved the song immediately. So much so that I had to go out and buy the single so I could play it over and over. Though it was hardly ever played on radio, the song made me feel that the brothers really have something special and unique about them. Comparisons between city life and ranch life take up the lyrics of this song as we hear about sitting on the front porch and enjoying the good times, while in the city it is nothing but hectic and busy.
In the upbeat, "Just Emily," there is nothing about the girl that this guy does not like, he even goes as far as to say that she is so sweet she could make an angel weep. She also has so much spirit that it is contagious and he knows he has found the perfect girl. The only thing he does not know is what he ever did to deserve such a "catch."
Everyone would want to pick up a copy of this album, if only the word would have gotten out about this wonderful group. It seems like they fell through the cracks of the country music business, which is a shame because the brothers put out a great collection of tunes.
