Chad Brock's third CD, simply called III, is anything but simple or plain. While I like his previous releases like "Ordinary Life," and "Lightning Does The Work," nothing enticed me to go out and buy the CDs. He just didn't sound, to me, all that different from every other new male country singer out there. However, with this new CD, Chad has managed to distinguish himself from the norm. This collection of songs really displays a talent I hadn't noticed before. Here's a little thought on each track.

"The Thought Of Being In Love" - This one could be a sequel to "Yes." The couple in the song thought they were in

love, but it doesn't work out in the end. I like the optimism that comes out in the chorus: "and though it didn't work out like we planned, because of you I'm a better man. We just got caught up, in the thought of being in love."

"Park The Pickup (Kiss The Girl)" - That's the advice the young man's conscience gives him as he drives around with his girlfriend. An appealing fast paced song that's sure to get you moving.

"Tell Me How" - I love this song! The first release from the new CD, this sad song is one that anyone who's ever been dumped can identify with. It's also a great demonstration of Chad's vocal talent. One of my personal favorites!

"I'd Like To See You Try" - I haven't made up my mind if I like this one or not. The music has an attractive quality; it's the lyrics that bother me. Basically, the theme of the song is "Sure, I know you want to get serious, but you know I don't want a commitment. Still, I'll certainly enjoy you trying to convince me otherwise." It's a typical man song. Maybe that's my problem with it.

"I Ain't Cryin'" - This track could have been a truly sad song if it were slower. The way it was done, I may not be crying, but I can feel all the emotion intended. Another of my favorites.

"The Lie" - Quite a moving story song this one is!! She thought her marriage over and turns to someone else for a night. They get back together a month later, and she spends the rest of her life afraid of exposure. Not concerning the one night affair, but about the truth regarding the child that resulted from it.

"Population Minus One" - This is another cute one. It's a one-sided phone conversation in which he talks himself into leaving the big city. He just can't stand to be away from the country life and the country girl he left behind.

"Right Now" - A melodic, slow, not all that different from every other love song out there, love song. Every CD seems to have one, like a prerequisite. It's a good listen all the same.

"I'd Love To Love You" - Now we're back to the fast songs. Between the "oh ohs" and the heavy breathing, this has got to be the one of the most amusing songs I've heard in a long time.

"Livin' In Las Vegas" - Chad keeps the tempo up with this last energetic cut. "This sleepy little town is quiet as a mouse, but there ain't nobody sleeping over here at our house. Loving you is like living in Las Vegas."

If you are one of the lucky ones to buy the CD early, you'll get three bonus tracks: "Yes," "Ordinary Life," and "Lightning Does the Work." All in all, I'd have to say the good definitely out weighs the average in this CD, making it a worthy purchase.
