CD Review: Sons of the Desert - Change

Sons of the Desert - Change

Change Cover

This album is the first Sons of the Desert have released on MCA, and I gotta say, it's a winner in my book.

Wwhile I followed the guys music prior to this album, I had never bought their previous work, so I can't compare. One thing to note is that the guys don't use studio musicians to play all the music on their CD. They play many of the instruments themselves. I like this, because what you hear is how they really sound, not how someone else can play the music. You can read my feelings on each of the songs below.

Goodbye To Hello - This is a great upbeat start to the album. The singer talks about how he thinks all day about the one he loves from the moment he says goodbye to the moment he comes home again, saying hello.

Albuquerque - I believe this song was released when the Sons were still with Sony. I know I've heard it before. Another upbeat song that says, "Albuquerque, where the skies are blue. (I'm gonna take a bus, take a train gonna fly, prayin' she's there after all this time.)"

What I Did Right - This mid-tempo song talks about the good days in life, and trying to remember what you did right and keep on doing them.

Everybody's Gotta Grow Up Sometime - Can you say fun? This is the second single off the album, and along with being fun to listen to, it has a terrific video to watch, to boot! This song makes mention to various famous icons, such as G.I. Joe, Superman, Tonto, and Barbie and Ken, and the changes they've made in their lives, while the writer says "Everybody's gotta grow up sometime, why can't I?"

Too Far To Where You Are - This song has a Beatlesque sound to it, in my opinion. Great tune, and I hope they release it as a single.

I Need To Be Wrong Again - This mid-tempo tune talks about knowing you were wrong in your relationship, but it's too late, and you beg for another chance. "Sign said 55, but I just ignore it. That kiss really meant goodbye, that's why I floor it."

That's The Kind Of Love You're In - This is a killer ballad. It starts with just Drew and then by the time the chorus kicks in, you hear those wonderful harmonies.

Real Fine Love - The guys do justice to this John Hiatt cover.

Blue Money - This song has an Eagles-feel to it. Just love it!

Change - This was the first single off the album. Great uptempo song about people making change in their lives. Can't think of this without remembering the cool video with the stop-action scenes. Definitely one of my favorites on the album.

Ride - Love this one too. You can hear keith urban on banjo all through the song. "So, I'm gonna ride like a cowboy into a sunset. No looking back, no regrets."

I gotta give this album 4 3/4 out of 5. It's got a good mix of songs, and the harmonies are killer.
