Chris Cagle Interview - November 20, 2000

We did an interview with Virgin Records recording artist Chris Cagle in November 2000. Chris is burning up the charts with his first single, My Love Goes On And On, from his debut album, Play It Loud. The song is sitting at #16 on the Billboard charts for the week ending December 2nd, and moving up. We're glad that Chris took time out of his schedule to answer our questions, which you can read below.

Country Music Guide: What artists do you look up to as an example of how you would like to handle your career?

Chris Cagle: Martina McBride.

Country Music Guide: Which artist would you like to meet?

Chris Cagle: Don Henley.

Country Music Guide: Have you attended Fan Fair? If so, what are your favorite memories from it?

Chris Cagle: Yes, and my favorite memories would have to be watching the crowd and their reaction to the stars and my thinking, "One of these days....."

Country Music Guide: Do you ever get on the Internet?

Chris Cagle: Yes, I like to check out my website chriscagle.com to talk with my fans.

Country Music Guide: What are some of your upcoming plans?

Chris Cagle: I am already working on my second album, trying to get a head start. In the meantime, I am also continuing to develop relationships with folks at radio, with fans and with the public.

Country Music Guide: Who will you be touring with? I think you and Clay Davidson would make an awesome team on the road.

Chris Cagle: You're right--he's the real deal and I liked his record so much that, after having been given a copy free, I still went out and bought another! For the time being, I am going to be playing my own dates until I get a good offer.

Country Music Guide: Would you like to record a duet someday, and if so, with whom?

Chris Cagle: Terri Clark, if it were with a female and George Strait if it were with a male.

Country Music Guide: Did you ever consider a career in football?

Chris Cagle: No.

Country Music Guide: What do you do to keep in shape on the road?

Chris Cagle: I run at least 3 to 4 miles a day and I lift weights.

Country Music Guide: What is one word to describe the state of your life before and after having a song and video out on the charts?

Chris Cagle: Before: Hopeful. After: Gratitude.

Country Music Guide: How many instruments do you play?

Chris Cagle: 2; piano and guitar. I started playing guitar when I was 6 years old and played until I was a senior in high school. Then, I put it away for a while for football.

Country Music Guide: Did you take vocal lessons?

Chris Cagle: I took lessons for 6 months to learn how to breathe properly.

Country Music Guide: What music do you like to listen to?

Chris Cagle: I mostly prefer classic rock and country.
